Well it is 2am and more drama. Drama the essence of life in this family. The drama this time will be somewhat painful. No heat until Monday. We put $400 worth of oil into the tank three weeks ago and it is gone, all gone. We called for oil about five or six days ago, but they would not deliver because of New Years. So, now we have officially run out of oil. It smells just great. Can you remember ever being too close to the rear of a truck while sitting at a traffic light with the car windows open? A stiffling, often invisible but painful, cloud of combustion encases your head and you start coughing like a fireman at a five alarm. That smell is what attracted my attention, the pungent rather repulsive smell of burn. I have been defending the benefits of alternate heating sources to my partner for the past two months...or into years, and as usual I have been dismissed as ridiculous. Well here we sit, no heat, soon to freeze pipes, and no alternative heating sources. This is going to be just great. It will soon go from being bad, to really bad, prceeding on to disaster.
How might disaster develop, one considers? It is painful to even think of the possibilities. Lets start with all that nice new spackling and paint. It might soon be gracing the presently peeling floors. Like us humans, spackled wall board demands heat to be comfortable. The freshly freshened bathrooms, could drool while cracking... a lovely prospect....proceeding on to making frozen waterfalls easing out of the porcelain. It could be amazing! Well 2:50am, freezing cold and no prospects. How depressing. As someone once quoted to me a long time ago, "Denial is a very strong emotion".
