Construction observations...actions:reactions

The progress on the foundation is just going great. Mr is working harder than one human should have to. He is very good about doing it and he has accomplished a lot.  Each of the aspects of the project have actions and reactions. Back to the actions/reactions in a minute. 

The kitchen has been filling with bedeviling fruit flies. They seem to magically appear in a nano-second. I put out fruit fly traps, freshly filled with cider vinegar, and they catch flies...but not enough to solve the problem. We had dinner guests the first time it happened, and we actually took our guests and left the room because the infestation was uncontrolable.  It was embarassing, and uncomfortable. At that point departure was the only option. 

Lets move forward a few days.  The same infestation happens again...and after our observations and consulations with our guests, we come to the conclusion that the fruit flies were coming in through the screens on the open windows.  We closed the windows and put up more traps...still infestion came on after dark. Again we close the windows and move out of the room...coming to the conclusion that we MUST purchase "no-see-'em" proof screens. A special type of screen to control the smallest of insects. 

The next morning, I moved a storage box in the kitchen that was stored up against the wall and door where the foundation is being repaired.  When I moved the large box, I saw daylight along the wall...lots of daylight...enough daylight to illuminate the floor and the corner the box was stored in.   Oh boy, it all became clear.  The fruit flies had free entrance and exit to my kitchen via this portal. They weren't coming in through the screens, they were coming through the holes along the floor where it met that wall!  When the lights were on at night, the bugs saw their invitation to enter, and they came on in.  Does this mess look as if it would make holes in the wall? Of course it does, duh! What was I thinking... or should I say, not thinking?

Action: jacking the house up to expose the foundation for repair and reconstruction. Reaction: kitchen filled with fruit flies. Illumination!

Now what? This needs an immediate fix....How simple...where is the duct tape? My kind of construction repair. I can do this!
