Success has wrought more challenge. The original project was to demo and rebuild the section of pilings and fill in walls under the south wall of the kitchen. The rotted sills and joists, caused by the water bouncing off of the concrete stoop, needed to be replaced. That was the idea, to stabilize the wall. The sills are replaced and stabilized, but the arrival of "Big Momma" the mixer, made progress swifter. D's help moved the progress along more swiftly. Things change. The decision was made to demolish another quadrant, and replace it with another set of footings and blocks to set a foundation. This set of pictures capture that work.
First one can see the backfilled soil along the newly rebuilt foundation castings and block, it is to the left and front of the old concrete steps. Below that is another view of the same back filled area, with some of the previous work still uncovered, so that the in-process excavations can be seen in order to line up it up with the ones that have been completed. There is a distinct line in the center foreground showing that area. In the background one can see the black void where the excised brick pilings and fill ins stood. In the shots below you can see the status of the previous foundation and footings waiting to be connected to the next section of replacement wall.
Forms have been built, and iron rebar has been laid in place as preparation to pour the cement to cast the new section of footings. Rebar is metal reinforcement to strengthen the cement footings. This is a very long section, having the cement mixer to do the mixing work made larger sections like this possible.
Concrete was poured.
Photos, next time.
