The juices are flowing out there in nature. Even though we are out on the edge, things are starting to perk up and grow. We had a temp over 70 today, actually I think it was 76. What a joy and gift it was!
Stupid me was cleaning things indoors all day today. I was taking advantage of the new water system that now allows me to wash my clothing and household items here at home instead of going to a laundromat. I am relishing that blessing! Having no water for cleaning put us so far behind the daily stream of normal household cleanliness that I am still working to catch up with it. I am desperately trying to achieve the normal level of life I maintained before moving back into the 19th century....the state of living in this house.
Anyway, when I realized that it was warm outside I took a break for my duties and took in some fresh air. On that walk I checked out the garden to look and see what is new. After all, it is only February 18, how much can be happening in the garden? Well I found out that a lot could be and was happening. Bunnies or some other creature has been eating the tops of my spring bulbs as they rise from the depths for their spring blooming. That just can not happen! Wanting to be organic, I thought about the possibilities and decided to dump some soapy smelly water on my plants to discourage the nibblers. In the past I have found that deer will stay away if they don't like the scent of things. They have very sensitive noses. I am hoping that rabbits also have sensitive noses and will be repulsed by strawberry scented human shampoo. I know it is worth a try. Past experiences taught me that smelly bubble bath does wonders for holding off the merciless deer, so I have high hopes for this remedy. You can see the nibbled sprouts above, so I will keep you posted on the success of this experiment.
