Gardening, Blooming perrenials, blooming annuals

Bright and cheerful Sun Drops, I look forward to these!
dried out Rudebeckias
These are my latest blooms. The garden is really looking lovely. Unfortunately my water system was taken down for winter and has not been reinstalled. Some of the poor plants. like those at the left were hurting for certain and the lilies are down for the count, never to return...well at least not until next year. They bent in half for lack of water, and the Rudibeckia Black Eyed Suzies next to them are in the same sad state. I loaded them up with water, so I'll have to see if it repaired the Rudibeckia, nothing is repairing the Lilies!

Dianthus

Campanulas
The Dianthus are such a reliable bright perennial plant here. I am working towards creating a border of them around my garden because they take care of themselves so completely. I just love self reliant bloomers who require little attention.  Another self reliant bloomer is the Campanulas below. These look great with Daylilies, orange and yellow. These just opened and are waiting for the daylilies to open wide for full garden bed color. Aquillia, a purple Columbine is just about done blooming, it too falls into the reliable self nurturing perennial catagory. These have a rich dark purple color .

I have an interesting annual that self seeds. Its name is "Love in a Mist". You can see the lovely blue color matches well with the yellow Sun Drops and Daylilies. Its not too invasive and gives great color. I also love its fern like leaves which are delicate and interesting in cut flower bouquets.  Last year I made the mistake of putting them in a pot, and this year they self seeded next to where the pot stood last year. It worked out great and now I have some fine color there. Don't know how long they will last, but I think the whole season. I moved them into voids between some perennials and they make a great filler. I hope they reseed in those spots!
