Ant swarm

mound of ants

I saw this peculiar spot on the lawn while checking out the garden yesterday. When I saw it I thought "what is that?", it looked like some spilled peat moss or mulch. Closing in for a better look, I saw the spot was moving, and I quickly observed that the spot was alive! Alive with ants! It is the ant equivalent of the beekeeper's bee beard. There was an uncountable number of ants in that swarm.  Impressive!
