Window installation project continues

window after installation, remainder of wall to be stripped
When conceived it, it is easy to think we will just pop a new window into that wall and it will be great. We can sit and eat each meal with a continuing newsreel of weather and nature events outside our dining window. It actually seems that easy. The reality of it is much more complicated than the concept of it. Sure the window is in, and you can see out of it. It is even weather proof at this point, and keeps the house warm and dry....But the look of it inside and out leaves much to be considered and decided. The finish will be quite a challenge. The exterior wall restoration and the interior wall and space restoration are yet to be completed.

Today's posting documents the restoration of the exterior wall, and breaking through the wall board.  This project required demolition of an exterior wall of four layers, already documented in previous postings. The prep, in process I, and in process II show the steps to get to putting the window in place. Next was some photos of putting the window in place. Today's posting will be photos of the window in place and the exterior wall being restored. Partial completion of which made us weather tight. Weather tight is a huge accomplishment and milestone, so with that complete we know things are going well, and Mr is damn talented. On to the photos!

After getting the window in the next self amusing assignment is to go inside and break through the wall board. The first picture below is what the interior window space looks like after the window has been removed and then taped up with plastic to cut down on air infiltration. That is followed by a photo of breaking through the wall board to see the view and let in some natural light.

Now, it would seem the job is done, but the bigger parts of the job remain. First the interior space needs to be restored, an existing soffit had to be removed, and dismantled. Then the whole wall has to be sheet rocked, spackled and painted.  Here is a photo of some of what needs reconstruction...and that is only the top of the window!.....more next posting.
