Autumn Gardening, Fall Gardening, The Garden Today, Cosmos, Chrysanthemums

fall blooming Cosmos with bee
I spend way too much time in this boring house. Of course one week of rain has trapped me inside the house in a way I would not choose to be penned, for the last week. We'd get up every day and say...oh yeah, rain again. I put food out in the bird feeders,to no avail. Even the birds would not breech the curtain of rain for a free treat. My Hummers are gone, the Ospreys are gon,e and here we are back at boring out on the edge of civilization.  I'm trying to lift the state of things, but low light and drenching condensation are a tough wall to get through to find a happy place to be.

Today, for the first time in a week, I saw a patch of blue in the sky when I pulled the curtains in the morning. A wonderous suprise, and infusion of motivation and life force. It got my blood going and I planned my day to conquer some tasks, and run an errand or two.  Walking out the door brought me another delightful surprise. I was met by the scene in the photos below.

Spectacular bed of Cosmos nutured into bloom by a week of rain

There are four exterior doors in this house and three of them face completely different directions like points on the compass rose. Just dragging though daily chores does not necessarily cause me to the views visible from each doorway. Door 1 and door 2 are used every day, for sure. Door 3 is rarely used, and today I exited via door 3. A carpet of pink Cosmos' greeted me and floated my heart skyward. Over the last week of drenching rain, the disappointing bed of Cosmos became the fabulous bed of pink Cosmos bobbing their hundreds of heads in the wind. Impressive doesn't begin to describe their color and action. Thrilled does describe the feeling that started to flow from my soul. Wow...a beautiful little gift and blessing. A wonder to behold and be thankful for...special. Just plain special.

If you look closely at my photos you can see the foundation of mums, cushion mums, below the Cosmos.
Mums form a base for Cosmos' wispy structure
The combination is the perfect Fall display. I don't remember planning it that way, but is has sure turned out to be my "go to" flower bed of Autumn bloom.
