Victorian Mansard Roof doll house 1992 |
We lived an old fashioned Christmas this year. Pretty much negiligence is reason why we did so, I will explain. Twenty years ago...no twenty-one years ago to be exact, we gave our three daughters the dollhouses they wanted for Christmas. Unfortunately at that time, children, full time jobs, and the demands of home and family precluded us from doing the perfect finished job we had planned to do on the handmade doll houses. One daughter received a mostly finished doll house, the second a less finished and the third daughter an even less so finished house. All houses were able to be played with, they were side by side townhouses. The

insides were sanded and finished and safe to decorate, the house front decoration left much to be desired. One had a lovely Mansard Victorian roof, the second a Tudor theme with no roof, and the third was a simple farmhouse that essentially only received a paint job at that time. Since this time our girls enjoyed and played with the doll houses through their childhood, but always resented the fact that the houses were never finished fully. This year, daughter number three requested her doll house be delived from our attic to her home so she could show it as a holiday decoration. The request started the process of finishing all the doll houses to a presentable state.

Tudor Style House as gifted 1992 |
Let me say we went with townhouse doll house design so that all three girls could have their own doll house in our playroom area. Space was limited, but we wanted to eliminate the chance of arguments in adult hood, about who was going to get posession of the doll house. Three building lined up like a city block solved this problem. We pumped the girls for preferences of style and did what we could to meet their requests. About seven years ago we moved from our "lifetime house" we were never going to move out of, and the dollhouses came with us because none of the girls owned their own home at that time. Now, all own their own homes, so it is time to finish and deliver the final product which is way way overdue.
Above you will find photos of the houses being constructed. The captioned should inform you of what you are viewing. I will continue this posting in a continuing series of one or two more postings, to cover some aspects of the updated construction.
