House Construction, Doll House, Victorian Mansard Style, Homemade Handmade..Part 4...

Victorian Mansard dollhouse, townhouse as gifted in 1992
awaiting updating in 2013
Blog posting part 4.....Now working on doll house number 4.  This posting is the final blog posting about the line of townhouse, dollhouses we built for our daughters. The previous blog postings, part 1, part 2 and part 3 are all availble to you by clicking the links here for each of the postings.  The Victorian Mansard roof house needed the least amount work, well, the simplest type of work. It simply needed trim around the windows and the installation of an operating front door. Somehow the task grew as we progressed on design and completion.

The door we bought commercially at Hobby Lobby, and retrofitted it into the space we had allowed for the front door.  The door has a half round window at the top as seen in the photo above. It maybe not Victorian, but it does reflect the arched windows up in the garret section of the roof. I love that touch of the garret windows, it reminds me of the garret we lived in in Paris for a few weeks...we could see the Eiffel tower from those windows! The door is a panel style door with raised panel design which would be Victorian appropriate. Our home here at Shore Side Farm House has those doors.  The roof has a handmade cedar shingle finish, also appropriate for Victorian Mansard roofs, and it adds a nice textured touch.

The windows have been detailed with wood planking adding emphasis to the perimeters. A simple two pane in each sash was added for the Victorian style.  Scroll down for a photo of the completed townhouse doll houses in a row, circa 2014...finally done...25 years later...pretty sad, but glad to have at least done the right thing and completed all, even if our daughters choose to get rid of them. I hate loose ends!
