Slow week

Slow days this week. Just playing catch up with bureacracy, organization and a small business...with a touch of gardening. Spring bulbs that did not get planted in early December because of snow, have been planted this week, the first week with no snow on the ground since December. Actually it has been pleasantly warm here we have been in the high 30's and next week is predicted to be in the 40's to 50's. Thank goodness, better weather is being welcomed here. All the locals who were charmed by the first two snow storms and their aftermath are pretty well burned out on the charm of snow at this point. Spring cannot come fast enough.

Last week was a research week. We went and checked out flooring. We drooled over hardwood and decided that that would be the best way to go...when we can go. The floors here are very interesting. Each room has a large rectangle of unpainted floor, in the middle of the room, that is still natural wood.  It is pretty dingy looking after all of these years. Something has to be done with it. It appears to have some sort of finish on it. My guess is wax, Mr thinks not. The balance of the floor in each room is painted brown.
This goes throughout the house in all but one room which is wine colored. All of the painted floors are peeling, some sections much worse than others.

In some cases just scraping the floors improved the look of the floors immensely.  This exposes numerous layers of other colors, buff, pink, yellow and the brown can usually seen.  The exception to the wooden floors is the kitchen floor which is completely exhausted vinyl from the 1970's, and the bathroom floor which has new vinyl. I find the floors very frustrating. They cannot be redone fast enough for me, and yet only the bathroom floor has been completed.
