Came to a screeching halt...

The screen porch is again a screen porch. The project has come to a screeching halt. It is now serving its original purpose and that is enough for me....obviously it is enough for Mr too. I argued  that it should stop because the immediate problem is solved and looks great.....why push your luck? So we are going to enjoy and live with it as is, and a big improvement it is. Living in an old house is very different. It is a living entity in itself. You have to honor the house and its message. Right now the message is "That's enough, I am old and I've had enough. Move on!".  So we will honor it. God knows we have enough other tasks that need to be done and issues that need to be settled so it is going to stay the way it is for a while. So be it.
We like this clean no wood look on the new screen porch finishing. We would like to leave it this way, but we don't know if that will work out. It is finished with a spline system, like the screens in the windows and on the storm doors. It makes it very taunt and clear. It is visually much more appealing because you can see right through the screens as if they are not there.  The question is, is it strong enough to be left that way. Actually after the winds of the last few days I think it might be. There have been unrelenting winds here for about five days, everything not tied down has blown away. I guess that is a pretty good measure of the strength of the system, so maybe it will stay.

Note the untrimmed screening on the bottom of the corner section. That is yet to be finished. The screen door is ancient, which would be fine, except the previous owners just cut off the top of the door on a slant, when the roof was dropping. Instead of fixing the sagging roof problem, they cut the door so it would work. It has lots of texture and age on it, but it is also pretty frail. Mr has chosen to build a new one with some trim to pick up the gingerbread on the posts. I'll try to get some photos of it to post here.  All in all it is looking fine, and living fine. Its going to stay that way for a while.

Inside is much further behind
in completion. That will remain that way for some time to come, though it will have to be completed before the winter returns. The view from the inside out is just great, no glare, lots of water and green. Very nice!

Mr. rebuilt this post and the corner post. They look great. They were deconstructed, rot removed, replaced, then reconstructed and painted. What will happen with the missing siding is yet to be decided. I know what I want, but whether that will happen or not is another story.
This work is not going to be even close to done for quite some time, so I have to give up the thought that things could be normal here anytime soon.  I really have trouble with that idea.
