Bits and buds

Portulacas showing up all other bloomers
purple morning glories
There has been a whole lot going on here this week. The question is which to write about. Mr put in a bunch more sprinkler heads and they have increased flower counts immensely. I am enjoying them. These portulacas are just fabulous for sunny dry spots and pots. These are in a pot. They held on really well without watering, but are doing wonderfully since they received a sprinkler to drip some water into them regularly. The wave petunia, which is a dark purple has also come alive with the same treatment, but I don't have a photo. I will work on that because they are stunning. The purple morning glories are pretty cool too. They are in a morning sun only location, so they struggle a bit but their color is super and their flowers are passable. Great color, not great size, as I said passable. I so wanted giant morning glories...especially blue ones. This is what I have. They grew from seeds and I guess that is a big enough accomplishment to brag about. I have them on a trellis, and watered well, but I can't seem to get them to super duper, and the pink ones on the other side of the house are huge, but with wimpy flowers. Don't have a photo of them, but I will try to remember to take some. The vines are huge, but the flowers are disappointing to say the least.

big pot was lifted and crashed, crushing plants

A big wind blew through and did some minimal damage. The big pot went for a cup and saucer ride and the Oleander was lifted and crashed. Both survived, thank goodness. I actually was thankful that that was all of our damage. Lots of folks in the neighborhood lost big limbs off their trees, and our PVC bench took off like a magic carpet and landed across the yard.

One of our antique locks fell apart and Mr took on the puzzle of dismantling it and rebuilding it. He did well. Take a look at this baby. This should keep the bathroom door locked, huh?
This 19th century lock box should do the job. ...cast iron I think.

Oh there was so much more. I could go on, but I know you ar pretty bored by now. The dahlias are completely disappointing. The Stella D'Oro daylilies are amazing. I have huge plants from the little single rhizome plants I planted in the spring. We have been cooking with the herbs grown here and that is a treat! Well gotta go for now. I hope I get to write again soon, not in another week! Let me know what you think. Comments can be left below and are welcome!
