While deadheading flowers yesterday I had some company. Odd company to be sure, but delightful company. I don't know what it is about dragonflies in these parts, but there are trillions of them, and they like humans. They come and sit next to me on a flower, or land on my shoulder. Sometimes they touch down right next to the spot where I am working. They are a lot less cautious than the butterfies. The butterflies give me lots of room, but these dragonflies are always hovering....and even landing.
As usual that was happening today. He or she played tag with me a bit. You can't help but watch them, you can see their head swivel and their eyes move and their wings change position. They are amazing colors, some are blue, some are golden, some are white bodied with gossamer wings with black stripes on them. I really love the blue ones, but my friend today... he was orange. He is black with segmented orange striping on his body, and orange wings. Pretty cool. My picture is not as good as usual, this is a phone photo, but hey...its a photo!
Oh by the way, for some reason some people seem to be very scared of these buddies. They don't hurt you and they don't have a stinger. Enjoy the commune with nature! It is downright cool.
