tank for reverse osmosis system |
Progress in the water department. Mr has taken on installing the hand me down reverse osmosis water system for the kitchen sink. Thanks to J who thought of us when removing the RO system from a relative's house. It will make a huge difference to our life when it is done. The plumbing hasn't been totally installed for the unit, so we only had a dry run, but the water came out clean and clear. We haven't seen such fine water since we left our "lifetime" house which had the most delicious and clear water you could ever ask for. Hopefully this is the beginning of a new era here. It should be done in another day or two, the especially cold weather that rolled in today is hindering the installation. These two parts are rather large, so it is taking some jockeying to get it in the cabinet under the sink. We are losing storage, but gaining potable water. Its worth the loss!

frosting of snow on the shore |
We had hard winter weather from the first week of December through New Years Eve. We had a warmer reprive with a thaw and some sun since then and it was very welcomed. Today winter rolled back in.

American Goldfinches at the feeder |

Goldfinches below the feeders |
The birds are pretty spooked by the cold. They are feasting down in anticipation of a food shortage, I think. We had a large flock of Goldfinches here today. You can see from the photos they were frantically eating from the feeders. There was over forty of them out there! When we lived north of here we were lucky to see even one or two Goldfinches over several months. Here they come in herds!
