Woodpeckers in the shadows
I saw them twice, and not since. At least one is visiting us regularly. I am talking about Piliated Woodpeckers, the ones with the crazy red head feathers...they look like Woody Woodpecker the cartoon character. A photo of him can be found on this posting: http://shoresidefarmhouse.blogspot.com/2010/11/rare-bird-sighting-early-on-sunday.html The evidence is quite evident in the yard. Upon taking a stroll around the garden we find piles of tree bark, and nude tree trunks certifying the presence of my fleeting visitor. They do substantial customizing, that is for sure. Here are some photos of the evidence, wish we would see them more often, but they are quite reclusive.
