We had a wicked storm roll through here the other night. Thankfully it was pretty warm outside so we did not freeze inside the house, but we heard some weird noises happening in all the tumult. All in all we seemed to come through it alright.
No windows, doors or ceilings leaked, that is always a measure. No trees fell on the house, though my car was pelted with White Pine boughs, which went on to cover the street. We had four foot waves on normally placid water, so impressive were the waves that I took some videos of the water. Lots of debris took to the sky and the locals took for cover. A neighbor who has lived here a long long time told me that he thought it was the worst winds he can remember other than hurricane Isabel a few years back. He made me feel better with his evaluation, I thought maybe I was overreacting!
On Saturday we took a look around outside and discovered what some of the noises were caused by. First we found that a roof shingle was ripped off. Next we found that aluminum moulding had been ripped off the soffit edging, in a dramatic jagged tear seen below. The really unbelievable damage though, was that the storm flat out tore off the aluminum siding that was wrapped around a window frame moulding. I mean it ripped it up and tore it off like a piece of tissue paper. We now are back to the original 19th century mouldings and paint around that window. The force it took to do that is frightening and awesome. It was a small short storm, not a hurricane! I fear what a hurricane could bring!
