A stroll through the garden today brought me some surprises. It is as windy as a tornado out there today. I walked out the door and my hair literally stood on end. A definite chill in the air, mostly from the wind, but life is beginning to emerge despite the cold. Many plants are awakening, much to my surprise. Green is sprouting all over the garden beds. The light that is increasing daily puts the whole process into motion.
The early tulips have established themselves, I can't wait to see the flowers. I just love the reddish stripes on the leaves.
The rosemary is blooming...so surprising! Above it is the lilac full with growth just waiting to pop.
The columbine is sprouting along the ground in pretty red green clumps. A single crocus has emerged in the garden beds, a survivor of gardens past. None have bloomed in the beds before, we have lived here four years. From time to time we have heirloom plants emerge after the ground is worked, this crocus must be one of them. Its alway fun when it happens. Daylilies are popping up all over the place, colonists in the original colonies used to eat daylily sprouts for green vegetables early in the spring. I can now see why, after a long winter, anything green that is consumable must have been awfully tempting.
The walk outside was a pleasure. It is a joy to find unexpected natural surprises waiting right outside the door.
