Now that summer is here, we want our space back. This has been the goal of the deconstruction project of the past couple of weeks. Using a chunking strategy we have been picking up the brick from the demolished pilings and chimney. The work is tedious and intensive. It involves sorting the bricks and chunks of bricks for size and potential usage, and raking and shoveling up chunks of mortar which remain from the broken down pilings and its disintegrated mortars. The chunking strategy of doing small sections of the job for short periods of time has been very effective. We can do the unpleasant work for a short periods of time, and slowly but surely complete the clean up, improving the yard as we go. Almost all bricks were upcycled to create walkways, walls and finally a fire ring pad. All look pretty good. The garden does look more planned, finished and neat since the work was completed. The walkways and walls are yet to be complete, but all are improving the garden and our enjoyment of the outdoors. What do you think?
