Renovation Rotted Floor, continues

Old rotten floor below the vinyl and door sill
Before: stains,faded, yellowed,cracked
Above is a picture of the completely rotten floor, this photo was taken before the joists were replaced. The joists were replaced earlier in the year in preparation to replace the kitchen floor. Here we are ten months later and it is finally coming together...photos below.

Oh la la! The floor project has progressed nicely. The hole in the floor, caused by the rotted wood, is patched and now finished in a lovely light maple foam backed laminate. I love it, it looks great.  The whole room is transformed.  It became clean, crisp and bright with the addition of the new floor. The light maple color of the floor has brightened up the entire room. The best part is that we can actually SEE the dirt, drips and stuff that falls on the floor! Before we just knew it was there and couldn't see when and where it needed to be cleaned. Totally gross to my way of thinking.....remedied now.

After:  new clean, smooth, laminate
New laminate floor
The room is not finished, but the floor is pretty close to being finished. Here is what we have done so far.....it still needs kick molding, and some tweeking. The base molding is in process, but not finished, so is the toe molding.  I will post photos of them some time next week.

Extreme Home Makeover is in the area so our project has been put aside to help a family in need, in a lot worse shape than us....the poor young man who is being given a house, lost a hand trying to repair his family home last Christmas. They don't even have indoor plumbing! So we are on hold here for now. I do have a posting or two coming with more photos of the new floor in the room. In addition, the next few weeks of the project will add two new cabinets in the blank spots of the current banks of cabinets. This will include some custom pull outs specially chosen to suit our cooking needs.

What do you think of the new floor? Is it too light?

  1. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I think it looks great too. So far I am very happy with being able to easily wipe down any spill, and still have the floor look great. I really had to laugh about your comment about the coffee drips, that is a source of conflict here too.
