Kitchen reno, New cabinets added

early stages of kitchen renovation

kitchen at purchase of house
I promised, two postings ago, that I would show some photos of the second new cabinet made by Mr. He did this to fill in the empty spots in the kitchen cabinets. As I have written of it before, we took the kitchen cabinets that were existing in the house when we purchased, and we rehabbed them.

All cabinets were removed from the walls, washed and scrubbed, and then refinished with crisp white paint, and refitted with new shelves and new hardware. A short sentence that belies the work involved in making it happen. It was a humongous job, because we do not have a garage or shed to work in. It made a humongous difference in our kitchen. It was the first thing we did in this overwhelming house. That part of our project was done three years ago and it took a month or two to complete the cabinet renovation, because it had to be done in small chunks to fit on the porch space I was working in. Since then we have been redoing the rest of the kitchen a chunk at a time, with each project hinging on the previous project. Tedious work to say the least, but I do feel as if we have now achieved something that makes us happier....and isn't that the goal?

Here below we have Mr's new cabinets.  Below on the left we have the large drawer unit before installation, and on the right we have the roll out spice cabinet which is installed under the countertop. The drawer cabinet on the left now has pulls, really neat sea theme pulls, and has been installed in an empty spot next to the refrigerator. This created a small baking and mixing area. It is a helpful spot for appliance use.

Here are some additional photos of the drawer unit with the drawers open, and the cabinet is now installed below the countertop. The drawers are pretty roomy.

A previous entry shows photos of the spice roll out seen above to the right here. I also added a new pull (to the right here) on the bottom pull out section of this spice cabinet seen on the above right. It turns out that spices and herbs can be pretty heavy to pull out on the rack. Pix of the pull  hardware are below too.
