Kitchen renovation, add ins

insulating electrical outlets
The never ending kitchen renovation is really approaching ending. There are still quite a few small fixes that need to be dealt with before we can say we crossed the finish line.

Since the outlet covers were off for painting, Mr put some insulation into the breezy outlet openings where unwanted cold and hot drafts seep into the house. (photo left) Its not pretty stuff, in fact it is pretty mind bending stuff, but it has done the job nicely to tighten up the leaks in an old house.

The only hang up is that now that we have made the kitchen sparkle, we can't see the breathtaking view out our windows....mainly because we have one tiny window. We kind of regret we didn't take that on...but hey you can't always get what you want when you want it.  That is yet to be remodeled.

Mr decided to build some new cabinets to add into the holes in the cabinet spread we do have. We had a 12" in void we thought we would put a garbage can into (above), and another corner which had no cabinets at all, and needed to be organized. The new cabinet fills the bill nicely. Mr built a 12 inch cabinet (left) and door, and we purchased a really neat roll out customizer (right) which now holds our numerous jars of spices and herbs. It is a blessing. We have never had a good solution for that conglomerate of bottles and boxes and this roll out really did the trick to tame it.  The photo shows the new cabinet fit into the open slot in the cabinet run, but there are no door pulls on there yet...that will be done in a day or two. It is the cabinet at the center top in the photo to the left above, just to the left of the range. It sure looks better, especially since you could see the old flooring in the void.  I have ordered some neat sea themed pulls. I will photograph them as soon as they get installed.

The second cabinet he built, I will write about next posting.
