Christmas Ornament Repair....fix clip on bird ornaments

close up view of some glass ornaments on the Christmas tree, note the bird ornament in upper right corner of photo

Okay, I am coming clean. I love clip on bird ornaments for the Christmas tree. I have a collection of about ten of them. As silly as it is, they bring me a small pleasure. Unfortunately, some of these ornaments have had their clips fall off in the last few years. I have promised myself to get some Duco cement, but then I feared it was the wrong adhesive and would do damage to the birds. As a result I have not fixed these pieces, though I miss their presence on my Christmas tree.

Today I made a connection I should have made long ago. Why not try the glue gun for this repair? Glue gun glue is usually very easy to remove, so there is small risk of damage to the ornament. The glue gun is a good solution to many problems so why not give it a try here...and so I did. It worked great, I'm glad to have my colorful bird ornaments back on the tree.

Photos below tell the story.

This bird attaches to the Christmas tree by a brass clip.

note the hole for the clip spring on the bottom of the bird, this is where
it will be reinstalled

as seen above a dab of glue is placed on the depression hole in the bird, then the clip spring is quickly installed and held in place for a few moments to guarantee that it holds in place

Once the clip has set in place, let it sit without pressure on the clip, so it can set.  Below you can see  several birds sitting to let the glue dry and let the clips set and harden in place

The two birds above have been repaired and are ready to go. The one on the right is a bit different, it has two springs as a mount.
