Getting heat

The focus of today is the same as most days in the recent past, the pursuit of heat. Everything has made a small positive change, but for the most part,no significant change. It is not for lack of effort. Mr has spent almost all of his waking hours trying every possible solution to the heat dilema. Again we have frozen pipes. The toilet is again unable to flush due to a water line frozen in the crawlspace. I won't even attempt to list the previous efforts to solve the problem, but it is frustrating to have no efforts work out to a significant difference. One positive is that previous changes in the crawlspace did prevent the kitchen hot water line from freezing. There does not seem to be any natural chance coming to solve this problem. The weather forecast predicts below freezing temperatures for the visible future.

Mr is again working on thermostats trying to control heat movement. Today he is in the attic looking to trace former thermostat installations. He has discovered that the insulation in the attic is put in improperly. We do not have the resources to fix this right now, so the insulation up there is ineffective. My guess is that this is one of the reasons why we received a $400 heating oil bill, for only three weeks of low temperature heat.  The circulator seems to be working improperly if at all.  Rooms cannot get up to the temperature that is set on the thermostat, so it is impossible to get to and maintain a livable temperature. The usual is about 62 degrees when full out turned on.

All of this is very disappointing, and mentally dibilitating. It is difficult to put in so much work, and have it be completely ineffective. I don't know where this is going to end up, but for right now it is not comfortable or pretty.
