Kitchen window renovation, continues

plastic curtain to curtail
gypsum dust
window wall being reconstructed
Last posting showed the plastic dust curtain, meant to control the dust penetration in the rest of the house. It helped somewhat with construction dust, but the dust is so insidious that in the end it was everywhere in the house. Maybe it has to do with the heating system, maybe it is the nature of the beast. Whatever the reason, the dust requires lots of clean up, even with appropriate precautions.

The reconstruction of the soffit has progressed very quickly.  Demolition was very time consuming, whomever the builder was, they "over constructed" the soffit by using 16 penny nails. Can you say overkill? That soffit would have survived a nuclear attack, let alone an earthquake. This inappropriate heavy construction required heavy demolition, that contributed to making a bigger mess than expected. The walls are looking good, and the space feels so much bigger, now that it  has full overhead space.

All patched up and ready to go. the next posting will
cover the painting and molding application.
We have selected a  wide white molding
with an added toe molding at the bottom of the
wall. The look is nice and rich!
